Published in April by the Modigliani Initiative, phase I of the Amedeo Modigliani Digital Catalogue is focused on paintings that were included in Ambrogio Ceroni’s authoritative catalogue and which are in public collections in the United States. In their first accompanying essay, the authors chart the emergence of Modigliani’s appeal in America. Collections begun in the 1920s made their way to some of the country’s most important institutions, resulting today in the largest concentration of publicly accessible Modigliani paintings in the world.
